Roses

We have personal experience with roses being very difficult to grow in Northern gardens. When we first came to Maine over 60 years ago, we bought 12 roses to plant, each of them were grafted. This means that the top (the leaves and flowers) were one plant and the roots were another plant, joined together at the graft. This is the standard commercial method of producing roses then and now! Each of those 12 roses died the very first winter. That is when we started to grow our own root roses. We don’t want you to have the same type of experience that we did, so we only offer the best quality roses that will ensure your success. We specialize in own root, organic, locally and sustainably grown roses. Our roses here at Old Sheep Meadows Nursery have been selected for their winter hardiness, vigor, beauty and fragrance, and are suitable for any northern garden. We have over 500 roses growing in the ground, and even in our harsh Maine climate, they not only survive, but thrive.
